MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Medical Examiner is confirming the person killed in a crash on the Beltline last week was Wisconsin Public Media director Gene Purcell.
He was 61 years old.
The crash happened on the afternoon of July 27th in the area of the westbound Beltline frontage road and Todd Drive, near the Wisconsin Public Media building.
Police say Purcell was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by a car, which then hit a large utility pole, causing live power lines to come down.
Purcell was unconscious after the crash and rescue measures were performed at the scene of the crash before he was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
A forensic exam confirmed that Purcell died as a result of his injuries from the crash.
Madison police say they are still investigating the crash, and the driver of the other vehicle is cooperating in the investigation.
