MADISON, Wis. — Dane County Emergency Management is recommending you stay indoors if possible part of Tuesday to avoid dangerous heat conditions.
DCEM Public Information Officer J Mclellan said if you have to be outside it’s important to stay guarded.
“Take precautions to hydrate before you go outside or before you begin activities as well as hydrating while you’re outside,” he said.
Mclellan also said you should monitor your health conditions for dizziness or nausea and check on your friends, family and neighbors to make sure they’re all ok.
Alliant Energy spokesperson Cindy Tomlinson said they expect to see a higher energy demand as more people use their air conditions but they are prepared to manage it.
“We have a diversified energy portfolio so as people start to use more power we just use our resources to ensure we have the reliability and the services that our customer’s need,” she said.
Tomlinson also said, even if only for the sake of your bill, the best way to offset additional energy consumption is to turn off devices not in use.
If air conditioning isn’t an option at home Madison Public Library locations are available for additional shelter from the heat.
“It’s a safe and cool place for people to be. We have air conditioning and we have water,” said MPL Digital Services and Marketing Manager Tana Elias. “There aren’t any limits to how much time people can stay during our open hours.”
MPL locations will be open Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. with the exception of the Monroe Street location.
Staff are also encouraging people in need of shelter to contact the Dane County Non-emergency Service Line at 211.
