MADISON, Wis. — Many communities in southern Wisconsin saw damage from storms this past week. As homeowners are preparing to repair their homes, the Better Business Bureau wants to make sure they’ve got the tools to do so.
The BBB said homeowners should take photos of any damage to have on record. Once that’s done, folks should call their insurance agent to review their policy and check how much time they have to file a claim.
“That deductible amount is super important as well,” Tiffany Schultz, director of BBB’s southwest Wisconsin region, said. “You want to review that coverage with your agent even once a year just to make sure that you’re comfortable with the deductible that’s going to be out of pocket. Maybe your financial situation has changed in the last year. It’s always important to be comfortable and review those policies.”
The BBB is also reminding homeowners to be on the lookout for scam contractors. When it comes to paying your contractor, it’s also wise to use a credit card.
