JANESVILLE, Wis. — Janesville police say they’ve arrested a man who allegedly stole a car and used it to steal Amazon packages as they were being delivered.
Police say a Mitsubishi Outlander was originally reported stolen on Tuesday. That same Outlander was later seen following an Amazon delivery truck on Wednesday, allegedly trying to steal packages after they had been delivered.
Officers tried to stop the person in the Outlander, 46-year-old Patrick J. Ryan, at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, but he sped off and officers decided to stop chasing him due to community safety.
At about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers found the Outlander driving near E. Centerway Street and N. Parker Drive. Police say they covertly followed it until they were able to block it into a parking lot and arrest Ryan without incident.
A search of the Mitsubishi resulted in officers finding many items that had been reported stolen from Janesville and the surrounding area.
Police say Ryan had been on probation and was just released from jail last Friday after posting a $1000 bond. He was previously in jail since May 16th for similar crimes.
Ryan now faces possible charges of OWI, fleeing an officer, operating a motor vehicle without the owners’ consent, receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, bail jumping, and probation violation. He’s currently back in the Rock County Jail.
