MADISON, Wis. — Registration is now open for a popular after-school program.
Girls on the Run is a youth development program that aims to inspire 3-5th grade girls to be healthy and confident. The program is volunteer-led and lasts for eight weeks.
Participants are split into groups of 8-15, and meet twice a week for dynamic discussions and running games designed to teach life skills. The program culminates with a 5K event for participants, families, friends, and community members.
This year’s 5K will be held at the Waunakee Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 6th, and is open to the public.
Girls on the Run will offer programs at 50 sites around South Central Wisconsin, and will offer $30,00 in financial assistance to ensure that no girl is turned away because parents can’t pay for the program.
The program is asking for volunteer coaches at Gompers Elementary School and Kennedy Elementary School in Madison.
Those interested in participating or coaching can visit Girls on the Run of South Central Wisconsin’s website.
