MADISON, Wis. — A kitchen fire at an apartment on Madison’s west side hospitalized one person and displaced two others on Friday.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 7600 block of Radcliffe Drive around 9 p.m.
Crews said they found smoke in a hallway and stairwell in addition to the room where the fire started. Flames were found in a pot on the stovetop. The cabinets above had been charred by the flames.
The fire started due to unattended cooking, according to an incident report. Alcohol use was a factor.
Fire officials said one occupant was found nearby and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Officials said the fire caused an estimated $24,000 in damage.
The American Red Cross is helping those who were displaced.
