MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Hospital Association says more than 1,000 people in the state are hospitalized with COVID-19 right now, the highest level of hospitalizations the state has seen since the middle of winter.
Data from the WHA shows 1,045 total COVID patients in Wisconsin hospitals Tuesday, the most since 1,025 people were in the hospital due to COVID-19 on January 13, before the vaccine was widely available to the public.
A total of 527 people in the state are currently on ventilators, according to the WHA’s data.
Wisconsin is averaging 1,583 new cases of COVID-19 per day over the last week, according to the Department of Health Services. That is the highest since 1,527 cases per day were being recorded on February 3rd.
The majority of Wisconsin’s hospitalizations are among the unvaccinated. Data released by the Department of Health Services in mid-August showed unvaccinated people were at least 3.7 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than those who were vaccinated.
