The communities that a proposed high-voltage transmission line would run thru could see a combined $14-million dollars coming their way. A recent report shows the companies behind the Cardinal-Hickory Creek project would make a one-time payment of $14.1-million dollars to the villages and townships affected in Grant, Iowa and Dane counties. The money is considered compensation for environmental impacts caused by the transmission line. The joint venture by American Transmission Company, ITC Midwest and Dairyland Power has also said that they estimate payments totaling $850-thousand dollars annually to those same municipalities across the life of the project. The Wisconsin Public Service Commission has already voted in favor of the Cardinal-Hickory Creek project. The proposal still needs approval from Iowa and federal regulators before the line from Dubuque to Dane counties can be built.
