MADISON, Wis. — Outgoing UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement from the university.
The news comes after several recent public-facing events celebrating her time at the university, including a day at the Memorial Union Terrace for a final round of ice cream, music and goodbyes with students and staff. Blank also attended UW-Madison’s 2022 commencement ceremony at Camp Randall over the weekend.
“My positive test result is a reminder that the virus remains with us,” Blank said in an emailed statement Wednesday. “I have attended several public events in recent days. I would encourage anyone who is feeling new symptoms that could be related to COVID-19 to test and based on results, follow CDC guidelines.”
There couldn’t have been a more fitting send-off for Chancellor @BeckyBlank than one of those glorious Terrace days that are made for memories.
Thanks to all who came out to the @WisconsinUnion and shared their well wishes with our outgoing leader!https://t.co/ZXmt99tmQ2 pic.twitter.com/48ZfesNy9d
