MADISON, Wis. — If you look out at Lake Mendota on a sunny summer day you’re almost guaranteed to see people riding around on kayaks, paddleboards, canoes and more; thanks to Outdoor UW at the Memorial Union, anyone can easily have the same fun in the sun.
Rentals for various watercraft — including Outdoor UW’s eight-person stand-up paddleboard — are now open for the summer season.
“The outdoors is for everyone,” Outdoor UW Director Dave Elsmo said. “We’re here to help our customers discover new skills and adventures, advance their skills, make memories in the outdoors, team-build, and simply enjoy nature.”
While Wisconsin Union members get special discounts on certain days and UW-Madison students get $2 discounts on most rentals, rentals are open to the entire public; no affiliation with UW-Madison is needed.
Outdoor UW has more to offer beyond lake access, too. The group has camping, hiking and climbing equipment available for rent year-round and also has snowshoe and ice skate rentals during the winter months.
Those looking to book a boat can make reservations online, by email or by calling 608-262-1630. Drop-in rentals are also available on the lower level of the Memorial Union.
