MIDDLETON, Wis. — Hundreds of students are getting some hands-on learning experience this week thanks to a STEM-focused summer camp.
Roughly 240 students are taking part in Camp Invention at Sauk Trail Elementary School, which teaches first- through sixth-graders the many facets of STEM programs. This year is the ninth year the camp has been held in collaboration with the Middleton-Cross Plains School District.
Organizers said the goal is simple: for kids to be creative and innovative and have fun.
Whether it’s building robotic fish or space packs, campers are learning through “the creative energy that kids have through success but also through trial and error and then how we revise those ideas and really work to build new prototypes and ideas as they invent,” camp director Kristin Pavelec said.
Enrollment is already open for next summer, but the camp often fills up fast. Participants don’t need to be students in the Middleton-Cross Plains School District.
