PORTAGE, Wis. — A Columbia County judge set bond at $5,000 cash Wednesday for a Middleton man accused of fleeing law enforcement in three counties in a vehicle he allegedly stole from a woman at a Madison Walmart last week.
Keewan Singleton, 34, faces charges of felony eluding and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping in Columbia County stemming from the Aug. 5 incident. He appeared in court virtually from jail Wednesday afternoon.
According to police in Madison, Singleton beat a woman at the Walmart on Nakoosa Trail around 7:45 a.m. while she was loading her groceries. Police say he then stole her vehicle.
Hours later, a deputy in Sauk County saw him heading into Columbia County in the stolen Land Rover Range Rover SUV; when he got to Lodi, police tried to stop him but he led them on a chase, which ended in northern Dane County, according to Lodi’s police chief.
Singleton is set to appear for a preliminary hearing in Columbia County on August 17. Online court records show two traffic citations were filed in Sauk County but no charges have been filed in Dane County.
Jail records show Singleton remains in the Columbia County jail as of Wednesday night.
