MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin State Patrol says northbound lanes of Interstate 39/90 near Buckeye Rd. in Madison were closed for several hours Sunday after a man reportedly took his own life by walking in front of a semi truck.
Authorities say the man, a 45-year-old from Madison, reportedly parked his car on the right shoulder of the interstate before walking into traffic and being hit by the semi at 3:36 p.m. on Sunday.
The man’s name is not being released until family can be notified.
The driver of the semi, a 71-year-old woman from Spokane, Washington, was not injured.
The northbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for nearly two and a half hours before authorities cleared the scene at about 7 p.m.
The incident is still under investigation.
