MADISON, Wis. — Proud Badger fans and UW-Madison alumni will tell you that the school is one of the best, and it seems U.S. News and World Report agree.
UW was ranked 10th among public schools and 38th overall (both three-way ties) in US News’ 2022-2023 list of America’s Best Colleges. Last year, UW ranked 14th among public schools and 42nd overall.
“While rankings are only one measure of excellence, I’m pleased to see so many areas of our success reflected,” Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin said in a statement.
The rankings are based on a number of data points including academic reputation, student excellence, and graduation and retention rates.
Princeton was ranked No. 1 among all schools. Northwestern was the highest-ranked Big Ten school, tied with Duke for 10th overall. UC-Berkely and UCLA were the highest-ranked public schools, tied at 20th overall.
UW is in third place among the Big Ten. Michigan tied with NYU, USC and Virginia for 25th overall.
UC-Davis and UT-Austin tied with UW for 38th overall. Elsewhere in the state, Marquette tied with five other schools, including Gonzaga, for 83rd overall.
