LA CROSSE (WKBT) — La Crosse Mayor Mitch Reynolds said Monday he will not veto the city’s new conversion therapy ban.
Conversion therapy is a controversial practice of changing a person’s sexuality or gender identity.
Last week the city council voted to approve an amended version of the ban, so that it only applies to state or federally-licensed medical or mental health professionals practicing the therapy on anyone under 18.
The “Save Your Rights Coalition of La Crosse” sent a letter to the mayor, warning the city will face a lawsuit if he doesn’t veto it.
The mayor plans to sign it.
Once that happens– and it’s published– the ban will be enforceable.
