MADISON, Wis. — Dane County Executive Joe Parisi on Wednesday gave an update on a number of bike and pedestrian trail projects that are planned across the county.
The updates came at a Bike Dane event at Lunney Lake Farm County Park Wednesday afternoon. Parisi provided more information about efforts to improve the county’s bike trail system, including the second phase of the Lower Yahara Trail.
The long-term goal is to connect Stoughton and Madison with the trail, which would serve as a safe and healthy way to get between the communities.
“When we live in a community that is as big as ours, it’s even more important that we have infrastructure in place to ensure to our greatest ability that biking is as safe as possible,” Parisi said.
Construction on the trail is set for next year.

The county has provided funding to expand bike networks in a number of communities this year. In late July, Parisi announced the county would give Middleton $1 million to finish another section of the North Mendota Trail that extends to Waunakee and the town of Westport.
