MADISON, Wis. — A Milwaukee woman has been sentenced for concealing the death of ‘Baby Theresa’ in rural Dodge County more than a dozen years ago.
The Dodge County District Attorney’s office says 46-year-old Karin Luttinen was sentenced to six months in jail and three years of probation on a charge of concealing the death of a child. The court stayed a sentence of one and a half years in prison and two years of probation, which will only be served if Luttinen does not successfully complete probation.
As part of her probation, Luttinen was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine, complete 60 hours of community service, and undergo mental health treatment.
The body of a baby was found inside a garbage bag in the woods in the Town of Theresa on April 29, 2009, beginning a years-long investigation into who left the baby there. In 2020, investigators were able to use genealogy DNA testing to determine Luttinen was the baby’s mother.

Luttinen allegedly confessed to authorities that she was pregnant at the time and gave birth to the baby girl in the bathtub of her home, but the baby was not breathing. Luttinen said she discarded the baby’s body in the woods while she was in shock.
Luttinen pleaded guilty in April of this year to disposing of the child’s body and not reporting the death.
