On Monday, police said that no traffic violation occurred during the incident. Police said the child slipped and fell in a parking lot. The driver of the vehicle was not able to see the child and hit them.
Police said multiple witnesses corroborated the report and that the driver was neither speeding nor were they distracted.
Neither the driver nor the child’s family members are facing charges or citations stemming from the incident.
“Our hope is that the community can show compassion toward this family, the driver, the witnesses, the child’s teammates, off-duty medical professionals who provided support at the scene and the first responders who did everything thing they could to try to save this child,” police said in a Facebook post. “Thank you for your patience as we investigated this truly horrific accident.”
