MADISON, Wis. — The 115th Fighter Wing will bid farewell to its final F-16s Wednesday at Truax Field.
The jets are moving out to make way for the new F-35 jets. The Air Force chose Truax Field to house the jets in 2020, a move that has both supporters and detractors.

The 115th began awarding construction contracts early last year to get Truax ready for the new jets. In total, 19 projects are set to be completed.
Officials said that some F-16s from other units will remain at Truax Field temporarily, in order to conduct training while the 115th transitions. The first F-35s are expected to arrive in Madison in the spring of next year.
