MIDDLETON, Wis. — Community members came together Friday for the fifth-annual “A Round for Rylee” fundraiser to raise money for the UW-Madison Carbone Cancer Center.
The event is named after Rylee Payne, who was diagnosed in September 2017 with neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer, when she was just 11 months old. She died eight months later after a grueling fight.
Fifty-six teams took part in a golf outing at the Pleasant View Golf Course to raise money to help other kids diagnosed with cancer have better odds of beating the disease.
“I just want you to know you all, when you’re here, ease our heartache,” Kate Payne, Rylee’s mom and the event’s founder, said. “You all make it possible for us to stand up here and to come here — it’s all you guys. It’s all of you. And I cannot thank you enough from the bottom of my heart, because you’re easing our heartache and we could not do this without you.”
Money raised from the event goes directly to research at the Carbone Cancer Center.
