DEFOREST, Wis. — Southbound Interstate 39/90/94 will remain closed overnight Friday after a crane truck hit the River Road bridge near DeForest earlier in the day.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the crane truck was heading south on the highway with the boom arm extended around 11:40 a.m. when it hit the bridge and rolled onto its side.
The truck’s driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Another vehicle on the highway hit some of the debris that fell from the bridge, the state patrol said; that driver suffered minor injuries.
The crash led to significant backups in the area throughout the day.
Southbound drivers are being rerouted onto County Highway V, U.S. Highway 51 and State Highway 19, or onto U.S. Highway 12 in Lake Delton, while the interstate is closed. That closure will last overnight.
The state patrol said Friday night crews have been called to remove a portion of the bridge over the interstate.
River Road, meanwhile, is closed until further notice.
