MADISON, Wis. — Madison police warned people Friday night after a scam caller was reported.
Police said the scammer called someone, pretended to be an MPD captain and asked for money. The scammer reportedly said that the person had missed a court date and now had to pay money to fix the situation.
The victim was able to recognize the scam and did not give the caller any money or identifying information. If you believe you may be getting scammed, police said you can hang up and call dispatchers at 608-255-2345 to make sure that you are actually being contacted by an officer.
