BROWNTOWN, Wis. — A suspect is dead following an incident involving a Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputy.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice says the deputy responded to a cross-county vehicle pursuit that began in Grant County, following an incident that happened in Dubuque, Iowa.
Around 2:3o p.m. Saturday, the deputy used a spike strip and the suspect then started driving towards the deputy, according to the DOJ. The deputy discharged their firearm.
The vehicle then later crashed in Green County and the driver got out and ran away.
Officers began searching for the suspect and heard a gunshot. The suspect was found near State Highway 11, west of County M.
First responders administered first aid, but the individual died on scene. A firearm was recovered.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputy that was involved has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident and will turn over reports to the Lafayette County District Attorney.
