MADISON, Wis. — SSM Health partnered with the Madison Ice Arena on Wednesday to offer local youth hockey participants and their families access to five different vaccines.
Attendees were able to receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 booster vaccine as well as flu shots and Tdap, HPV and meningococcal vaccines.
“The goal is to give all of these vaccines, and it’s a way to help kids get caught up who maybe fell behind during the pandemic,” family medicine Dr. Laura Mendyk said.
Clinics have also struggled to have enough availability to hold flu vaccination events, she added, which some have had to cut back on offering.
“We feel this is a really great opportunity for our kids to get those seasonal vaccines they really need,” Mendyk said.
Events like Wednesday’s are an expansion of SSM Health’s efforts to bring vaccines into the community through its Mobile Vaccine Clinic.
The healthcare provider said it wants to vaccinate as many people as possible before flu season.
