MIDDLETON, Wis. — A 36-year-old man faces multiple charges after police said he burglarized a Middleton coffee shop late last week.
Ilya Vinogradov, of Middleton, faces felony charges of burglary and criminal damage to property and a misdemeanor charge of theft of movable property. Online records show a Dane County court entered a not guilty plea on the misdemeanor charge Monday afternoon.
According to the Middleton Police Department, officers responded to an alarm at Scooter’s Coffee in the 6400 block of University Avenue just before 2:50 a.m. Thursday. The first officer who got to the scene saw a man, later identified as Vinogradov, climbing out of a drive-thru window and running away.
Officers arrested him a short distance away with “fresh cuts on his hands consistent with the burglary,” police said in a news release Monday evening. Officers reportedly found items taken from the business near where they arrested Vinogradov.
The coffee shop had multiple windows broken and other “substantial property damage,” the release said.
Online court records show Vinogradov is set to appear in court for a status conference on Dec. 5.
