MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is trying to help state residents get federal assistance via the American Rescue Plan to clean up their water supplies.
With $10 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, the DNR has expanded eligibility requirements for the Well Compensation and Well Abandonment Grant programs. The programs provide financial assistance to owners of private or non-community public wells to address contamination by replacing, reconstructing, treating or abandoning those wells.
“We also know that this program stimulates the economy. Well drillers and construction workers all will be put in play and really will be the embassies of goodwill to re-cap these wells, reconstruct these wells and provide safe drinking water for those individuals,” DNR Secretary Preston Cole said.
Applications for the programs will be accepted until funding runs out.
