MADISON, Wis. — Time is running out if you want to register to vote before Election Day, but you will still be able to register at the polls on Tuesday.
Voter registration is open at early voting locations through Friday, but is not allowed on Saturday, Sunday or Monday before Election Day. If you are unsure about your voter registration status, you can check it easily online on the My Vote website.
The City of Madison Clerk’s Office says if you moved on or before October 11, 2022, you will need to update your voter registration for your new address. If you moved after October 11, 2022, you have not been at your current address long enough to establish residency at your new address and will need to vote at the polling place for your old address.
In order to register, you will need to provide proof of residence, which can be shown electronically. The name and address on the proof of residency have to match the address listed on your voter registration form.
The following are considered acceptable forms of proof of residency:
- Utility bill issued in the last 90 days (water, gas, electric, phone, cable, or internet)
- Bank statement (bank, credit union, credit card, mortgage)
- Current and valid Wisconsin driver license/ID
- Government document (federal, state, county, municipal, tribal, UW, Madison College, or public school)
- Paycheck
- Residential lease effective on day of registration
- Certified housing list from UW-Madison or Edgewood College (available at the polls on Election Day)
- Affidavit from a social service agency providing services to the homeless
- Contract or intake document from a nursing home or residential care facility
You will also need a valid photo ID in order to vote. Acceptable forms of voter ID include:
- Wisconsin driver’s license
- Wisconsin Department of Transportation-issued photo ID card
- U.S. passport
- Military ID card
- Certificate of naturalization issued within the past two years.
- Unexpired Wisconsin driver’s license or state ID receipt
- ID card issued by Native American Tribe, regardless of the expiration
- ID issued by a Wisconsin accredited university or college — these IDs must have an issue date, student signature and expiration date within two years. If the ID is expired, proof of enrollment is also required.
- Unexpired Veterans Affairs ID card
