CROSS PLAINS, Wis. — Voters in Cross Plains experienced a brief interruption Tuesday due to a “finicky” ballot scanner, but the issue has since been resolved, Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell said.
News 3 Now received a call from a voter about a computer outage at their polling place in Cross Plains and reached out to McDonell about the issue. He said the issue lasted for about 10 to 15 minutes.
“Sometimes the scanner can be finicky,” he wrote in an email to News 3 Now. “Voters can still deposit their ballot in [the] emergency bin in the machine and voting shouldn’t really stop for more than a few minutes.”
The machine affected is a DS200 that both scans ballots and tabulates results, McDonell said.
Elsewhere in the state, no major issues had been reported as of early this afternoon, Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe said. While there were some “very minor” reports of lines at polling places, Wolfe said that is not unusual for an election.
Her office has been receiving quite a few calls about election administration topics like the kinds of photo IDs that voters can use and residency requirements as well as calls from voters asking where their polling places are.
“The volume of calls has been quite busy today to our office, but we’re glad to see that and we’re always glad to answer any questions that clerks and voters might have,” she said.
Polls close at 8 p.m. in Wisconsin. As long as you are in line at 8 p.m., you will have the opportunity to vote.
