COLUMBIA CO., Wis. — The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says two people have died after a crash on an icy rural road Thursday night.
Authorities say they received a 911 call just after 6:30 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash near where County Highway B and Hagan Road intersect in the Township of Lowville.
The driver of a pickup truck wasn’t hurt, but a passenger in the car that lost control died at the scene of the crash, and the driver later died from their injuries.
A preliminary investigation into the crash found the people who died lost control of their car on the snow- and ice-covered road and spun in front of the pick-up truck, which was traveling in the opposite direction. The truck ended up hitting the car in the passenger side doors.
All three people involved in the crash are from the Rio area, authorities said. Their names are not being released until their families can be notified.
