VERONA, Wis. — The countdown to Christmas is on, and the parking lot of the N Plus One Cafe transformed into a Christmas Market, or Christkindlmarkt, on Saturday.
The markets are a German tradition dating back to the mid-1500s, created to bring light and laughter during the cold, dark winter.
Vendors sold homemade ornaments, decorations and other gifts for the holidays, as well as hot food and drinks.
“International catering did brats and all that kind of fun German food,” organizer Jessica Laufenberg said. “We had crepes this morning – she blew out already.”
Last year’s market brought 1,200 people to the area and organizers said a similar turnout was expected this year.
