MADISON, Wis. — Earlier this month, Forward Madison named Zane Heinselman their new Vice President and General Manager.
He spent the past nine years with the Saint Paul Saints, eventually serving as Vice President of one of the most revered minor league sports teams in the world.
During his tenure with the Saints, the team moved to a state-of-the-art ballpark, became affiliated with the Minnesota Twins, and was named the best Triple-A Franchise in 2022.
He says he’ll bring a “fun-first” attitude to Madison as he gets to know the community and the team.
“Leaning on the staff to find out what we can do better in terms of the experience and figuring out and digging into what makes us unique, being so close to the Capitol, and being a club that always has the intention in mind of doing what’s best for the community and bringing fans to Breese Stevens Field,” Heinselman said.
As he and his staff build their roster and prepare for the 2023 season, they’re looking for new ways to help their community, and focus on the ultimate fan experience.
“Working in sports, often times, it’s being able to figure out what the problem is and how to create a solution that’s better for the fan experience, or better for the community, or the partnership you have,” Heinselman said.
He’s never worked in soccer, but the former St. John’s University soccer standout knows his way around a pitch.
“Our Manager Matt and his team have done a really good job in new signings, as well as some guys coming back to the roster, so we feel really good about some of the new players on board,” Heinselman said.
Ultimately, the goal is to win and have fun with it, that’s Forward Madison.
“We want to be accessible; we want to be the club that’s for the community, and I think with the staff, with myself, I’m hopeful we’re able to accomplish that,” Heinselman said.
