MADISON, Wis. — The City of Madison says crews have begun plowing all streets across the city, while also declaring a snow emergency for Thursday night to help with the snow removal process.
In an update Thursday morning, the city urged people to find off-street parking options for the next two days as crews work to remove the snow that fell late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The hope is that fewer cars parked on the street mean crews can get all of the snow off of local roads more quickly.
With another round of snow possible later Thursday, the city declared a snow emergency, meaning alternate side parking will be in effect for the next two nights for the entire city, including the designated Snow Emergency Zone.
During the snow emergency period, street crews will work to push snow back to the curbs. On Thursday night, anyone still parking on the street will need to have their vehicles moved to the even house number side of the street between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. On Friday night, people parking on the street will need to park their cars on the odd side of the street. Those who don’t follow the alternate side parking rules face a fine of $60 in addition to any costs that come with having their vehicle towed.
The snow emergency also means that parking will be free in the city’s ramps from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. If you park in a city ramp, you should avoid the top level of the ramps so they can also be plowed.
