MADISON, Wis. — A former Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputy has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge stemming from an incident at Festge Park that later prompted an investigation by state authorities.
Court records show 31-year-old Sara Bortz-Rodriguez pleaded guilty Friday to one count of resisting or obstructing an officer. Rather than receiving a jail or probation sentence, Bortz-Rodriguez was referred to the Dane County Deferred Prosecution Program.

A criminal complaint filed against the former Sheriff’s Office deputy alleged she lied about being stabbed during an attack at Festge Park in Cross Plaines in October 2021. DCSO officials said dashcam video showed Bortz-Rodriguez cut herself and was not attacked as she claimed.
The 31-year-old was fired from the Sheriff’s Office roughly a month after the incident.
