MADISON, Wis. — People hoping to beat the winter storm out of town appear to be in luck, as almost all flights from Dane County Regional Airport are scheduled to leave on time as of Wednesday morning.
Thursday and Friday will be a different story, though, as the incoming winter storm will impact most of the midwest.
Officials at the Dane County Regional Airport say their best advice during this time is to check the status of your flight ahead of time before getting to the airport. They’re also stressing the importance of arriving at the airport early — at least 90 minutes ahead of boarding — to give yourself plenty of time to get through security and get to your gate.
Some travelers we spoke to Wednesday say arriving even earlier is best this time of year.
“Sometimes you can get here an hour before, but I think at Christmas time, you’ve got to be here 2 hours before,” one person said.
Andrew Skoglund is headed to Florida on Wednesday and says he is relieved to be getting out of town ahead of the storm.
“I started getting concerned a few days ago, but then I checked the weather and saw that it wasn’t supposed to get bad until tomorrow, so I wasn’t really worried,” Skoglund said, adding he has some friends whose flights are booked for Thursday who are more worried.
Airport officials say you should check in with your airline before your flight if you’re concerned about potential delays or flight changes.
United, American, and Southwest Airlines have already posted travel waivers for those flying out of many U.S. airports, which will allow people to rebook their flights without any flight change fees or fare increases.
