MADISON, Wis. — A malfunctioning furnace caused a carbon monoxide leak at a Madison apartment early Friday.
Madison Fire Department crews were called to the 2400 block of Parker Place at around 2:45 a.m. after an alarm sounded.
Firefighters found carbon monoxide readings of 35 parts per million on the first floor and 100 ppm in the basement. The furnace exhaust pipe was clear of snow.
Crews found even higher levels of CO in an adjacent apartment and found that the apartment had no working CO alarms. Both apartments were ventilated and MGE was called in to identify the source of the leak.
The occupant of the unit without alarms had just arrived home when crews arrived and did not require medical attention.
