MADISON, Wis. — Dane County has a new judge.
Governor Tony Evers appointed Ryan D. Nilsestuen to the Dane County Circuit Court on Thursday, filling a vacancy left by retiring Judge Juan Colás.
Nilsestuen had served as the chief legal counsel for the Governor’s Office since 2019 and was also the chair of the Pardon Advisory Board. Before his work in the Governor’s Office, he was chief legal counsel and an attorney for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
“Ryan has been a strong advocate for the people of Wisconsin,” Evers said in a statement. “I know he will make a great addition to the Dane County bench and will work to treat everyone with dignity and respect.”
Nilsestuen’s term on the bench will run through July 31, 2024.
