PORTAGE, Wis. — Roads across central Wisconsin are covered in ice Wednesday, causing troubles for drivers making the morning commute.
The Wisconsin State Patrol closed a stretch of I-94 westbound between WIS 21 and CTH EW at 5 a.m. Wednesday in Monroe County because the road was deemed impassable.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s 511 tool, significant portions of I-90 are covered in ice north of DeForest. The majority of roads north of Madison are either ice-covered or have slippery patches.
The conditions come as a winter weather system moves through the state. A winter weather advisory was issued for Juneau, Monroe and Adams Counties until 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. That advisory was later extended to 11 a.m.
