MADISON, Wis. — Police in Madison arrested a 54-year-old man Wednesday who they said sexually assaulted a 77-year-old woman at her home.
In an incident report, police said a neighbor called 911 around 11:55 p.m. after hearing someone calling for help.
When officers got to the scene, they found the man inside the home on East Washington Avenue. The victim reportedly let the man inside after he knocked on her door for help. The two knew each other, the release said.
Police arrested the man on tentative charges of first-degree attempted sexual assault, physical abuse of an elder person, false imprisonment, strangulation, disorderly conduct and bail jumping.
The woman suffered unspecified injuries, police said.
News 3 Now is not naming the man at this time as part of a policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court. Click here to learn more about the policy. He is currently being held in the Dane County Jail.
