MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and other state leaders gathered in the State Capitol on Monday for an annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This year’s ceremony marked the 42nd remembrance of the iconic civil rights leader, making Wisconsin’s celebration the oldest official MLK Day celebration in the nation.
Remarks were expected from Gov. Evers and guest speaker Laurie A. Carter, president of Lawrence University. The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Foundation of Life Praise Band, Prince Hall Masonic Honor Guard, and Kalaanjali Dance Company were also expected to perform.
