SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — Sun Prairie emergency crews responded to a fire Monday that displaced five people in two units.
Firefighters were sent to the 500 block of Schiller Street after a caller reported smelling smoke.
The building was evacuated, and all people and pets were able to get out uninjured. Firefighters smelled heavy smoke but could not find any flames until they reached the attic.
The fire was contained to the attic above two apartments and was quickly knocked down.
“We’re very lucky,” Fire Chief Chris Garrison said. “I can’t say enough about my people and the job they did.”
An investigation found that the fire was unintentional and caused by an electrical issue. The incident caused about $100,000 in damages.
