The City of Platteville is seeking applications to fill the open District Three seat on the common council. The seat is vacant as former office holder Barb Daus now holds the District Two seat. Daus used to live in District Three but now resides in District Two because of redistricting. She ran unopposed for the District Two seat earlier this month after former Council Member Eileen Nickels decided to retire. According to a report, the District Three seat will be filled by appointment, and the selected individual will serve until the end of Daus’ original term in April 2024. The seat then will be up for election. Interested parties have until May 12 to submit a one-page letter of interest to the city. Applicants then will appear before the council on May 16th to make a presentation and answer council questions on their application. The council then will nominate and appoint the new council member May 23rd, at which point the selected applicant will be sworn in and take an oath of office.
