As of Monday morning, the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chien was at 21.5 feet. The current level ties for 4th with the historic crest of April 22, 1969 with a crest of 21.58 feet. The latest projections from the National Weather Service have the river reaching a level at or near 24.4 feet by Saturday afternoon. The current crest prediction is between 24.0 and 25.0 feet between April 29th to May 2nd. This would be just shy of the record of 25.38 feet. The shelter facility is operational at Hoffman Recreational Center for those who wish to use it if they experience flood water in their residence. For all those requesting the evacuation site contact Crawford County Emergency at 608-326-0266. Bottled water is available for those who need some that are affected by the flood. The water will be available at Hoffman Hall Recreation Center and the Tourist Information Center. As the river continues to rise, it is advised that pedestrians and bicyclists not travel on St. Feriole Island. An additional road closure has been announced by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department. County Road K from Cliffwood Drive to Highway 35 along the Mississippi River is closed due to flooding. Please avoid this area unless you live or own property on County Road K.
