Two persons were arrested after they assaulted a woman with a crutch and a knife last week at Miller Riverview Park. 41 year old Mose Smith of Stilwell, Oklahoma, was arrested Friday, and 41 year old Kimberly Gilbert of Sallisaw, Oklahoma was arrested at 1:50am Saturday on warrants charging willful injury causing serious injury. A report says Sara J. Hines came over from a nearby campsite last Monday evening as if she had been assaulted, then laid down on a picnic table. She was approached by a man and a woman, later identified as Smith and Gilbert. The report says the woman began hitting Hines with a crutch and another witness said the woman also pressed a large knife against Hines’ face and that the man also hit Hines with a crutch. Hines was taken to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center and was treated for a nasal bone fracture and required about 20 stitches to treat a large gash on her forehead. Smith and Gilbert had left the scene by the time officers arrived, but were apprehended later in East Dubuque.
