Dubuque city officials are exploring the possibility of installing the community’s first bicycle lane. City engineering staff are gathering input from local cycling groups and downtown businesses on the creation of a temporary pilot bike lane on a downtown road. If completed, the lane would feature a section of road to be used exclusively by bicycles to promote road safety. If implementation is successful, the temporary lane could serve as the first step toward a wider initiative to bring more to the city. Four streets are under consideration: Fifth Street, Ninth Street, 10th Street and 11th Street. Officials expect it to be ready in the spring.
