Hunters should avoid ash trees

If you’re heading out to go hunting this season, avoid placing your deer stand in or around ash trees. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said most of the ash trees in Wisconsin’s southern half as well as in Door County and near the Mississippi River are dead or dying. That’s because of the invasive emerald ash borer insect, which continues to be found throughout the state. The DNR said trees infested with the insect can unexpectedly snap or drop large branches. According to the DNR, tree stand accidents are the leading cause of serious injury to deer hunters. One in four bowhunters have experienced a fall or near-fall from an elevated stand.
