Galena Woman Sentenced For Stabbing Incident

A Galena woman has been sentenced to two years probation after authorities said she stabbed a man and then barricaded herself inside a residence. 42 year old Jennifer Velzis was sentenced in Jo Daviess County Circuit Court after she pleaded guilty to domestic battery and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department said that authorities responded in the early hours of July 10th to Red Gates Road in rural Galena for a reported stabbing. 25 year old Zakkary Wasmund of Galena, met deputies outside the residence and told authorities his father, 54 year old James Wasmund of Galena, was inside the residence with his girlfriend, Velzis. Zakkary Wasmund told authorities Velzis had stabbed his father.
