Fewer Deer Expected For This Year’s Hunt

The Wisconsin DNR is predicting a tough year for deer hunters. The agency is forecasting hunters will likely bag fewer deer during this year’s gun deer season compared to 2022. The DNR says in 2022 there was a more than 14 percent increase in the overall harvest when compared to 2021’s numbers. The group’s deer program specialist said in a virtual briefing on Thursday that snow and a lack of standing corn — which can hide deer from a hunter’s view — helped improve hunter success. The DNR is also urging hunters to get their deer tested for chronic wasting disease after they’re harvested.
