Hunters in Jo Daviess County harvested a preliminary total of 967 deer during the first weekend of the Illinois firearm deer season. The total from Nov. 17 to 19 represents an increase from the 843 deer taken during the first weekend of the 2022 season and the 830 deer taken during the first weekend in 2021, according to Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Statewide, hunters in Illinois harvested a preliminary total of 53,348 deer during the first weekend of this year’s season, compared to 52,354 deer during the same period in 2022. Illinois’ seven-day firearm deer season will conclude with a four-day window today to Sunday Dec. 3.
