The Dubuque City Council voted, 7-0 and 7-0, to approve two motions to increase the wages of high ranking staff in the police department and fire department. The wage increases were proposed as a way to reduce the growing parity between the pay of higher ranking positions within both departments with that of lower ranked police officers and firefighters, reducing the motivation to take promotions for those positions as a result. In the police department, officers ranked lieutenant, captain and assistant chief will receive a 5% increase, while Police Chief Jeremy Jensen will receive a 6% pay increase.
