The Dubuque City Council voted, 6-1, to approve a request for proposals for the creation of an automated traffic enforcement system in the city. Council Member David Resnick cast the lone dissenting vote. In November, the City Council approved an ordinance allowing the city to implement automated speed cameras on its roadways, which will be able to automatically identify vehicles traveling over the speed limit and issue a civil citation, pending review from a police officer. The city is now seeking a vendor that will install the cameras and set up a system needed to maintain records and issue citations.
